Hello and welcome to another Flight review!
Today I'm taking you with me to discover the product offered by Aegean Airlines, Greece's leading airline, on board a brand new A321neo on the London-Athens route.
Greece's flag carrier took delivery of the first of ten Airbus A321neo aircraft ordered in June 2018 in early October 2020. It already operates five of the planned 36 A320neo aircraft, 16 of which are leased and also carry the new livery, as well as 35 A320 and one A319. Aegean is upgrading its fleet with ever more efficient aircraft, improving the passenger experience.
We meet at London-Heathrow Airport, in Terminal 2; the terminal from which my flight will depart.
Check-in is quick as there were only a few passengers on my flight. I then go through security and arrive at the duty-free.
The duty-free shop is very modern, bright and pleasant.
The terminal, like my flight, will turn out to be empty.
I then stand on the side of the window to spot the planes around. We find El Al, Virgin Atlantic, Singapore Airlines, British Airways, and Concorde in the background.
El Al's 787 continues to push back.
My brand new aircraft arrives from Athens wearing the new Aegean livery which I think looks great with the mask. It is a 7-month-old A321neo (SX-NAB).
Boarding begins with respect for priorities.
The opportunity for me to have a nice view of our aircraft.
The unmissable fuselage shot highlights the beautiful livery.
The welcome in the cabin is warm, then I moved to 22A.
The seat offers several interesting options such as a tablet holder, several storage spaces, a coat hanger, and a large tray table.
Legroom is decent, but not outstanding.
The seat is also equipped with a USB port.
I will be alone on my row, which greatly increases comfort!
The neighboring airlines are Eurowings and Royal Jordanian.
Eurowings is pushing back for an imminent departure.
A Turkish Airlines 777 arriving from Istanbul passes behind us.
As you can see, the Economy cabin is empty. Only the Business cabin will be full today.
After pushing back, we start the taxi to runway 27L. A legend of the sky appears at the bend in the road: the Concorde.
We then cross paths with Turkish's 777.
The safety card for fans…
We continue the taxi with an A350 from Singapore Airlines.
And the take-off is quick because of the low density of our flight.
Soon, a left turn gives us a nice view of Heathrow.
I am a big fan of the Sharklets on this A321neo!
We continue the climb...
Once we reached cruising altitude, the crew then served us a free snack with a choice of vegetarian or beef. I took the beef option. Then there was a drink service, also free.
We approach the Alps, with beautiful aerial views.
The cabin, still lit, would not remain so for long as night was beginning to fall.
We witnessed a beautiful sunset at 37,000 feet.
Large dark clouds loom on the horizon during our approach. Pilots will be careful to fly around them.
Unfortunately, the fog on the window and the low light outside prevented me from taking good photos on landing.
We then disembark quietly, row by row. Unfortunately, the jetway has no windows. It's a pity.
I then follow the passenger pathway to Athens with a kind message welcoming me to the Greek capital.
It takes about 20 minutes from disembarkation to exit from the airport.
Heathrow is a pleasant airport, especially with empty terminals. The duty-free is very pleasant.
About Aegean, it was a comfortable flight on board a recent aircraft. Especially since it is a newly delivered aircraft. A very pleasant crew. A good point that should now be generalized at Aegean.
On arrival, ATH was smooth, with an exit in less than 20 minutes.
