Hello and welcome to this new Flight review!
Today, we're flying from Ajaccio, in Corsica, to Marseille onboard Air Corsica. With a primary mission of public service on the twelve routes between the four Corsican airports (Ajaccio, Bastia, Calvi, and Figari) and Marseille, Nice, and Paris-Orly, Air Corsica is also committed to continually expanding its network to offer its customers new horizons towards the mainland, the Mediterranean basin, and Europe. Let's discover the offer on a short flight across the Mediterranean Sea!
Ajaccio airport is rather small, so it quickly becomes undersized in the summer period due to the flow of tourists. Nevertheless, it's February, so everything went pretty fast. From baggage check-in to getting through security, it will take us about 20 minutes. Many counters are open, which ensures an efficient check-in.
After going through security, I find myself in the boarding area, from where I can observe my aircraft. There is only a small shop selling local products and a waiting area. The time is very early and the sun is starting to rise.
It's time to board the beautiful Corsican A320!
Some views of the aircraft:
And the fuselage shot!
On board, I find the same cabin as on my ORY-FSC flight. The seats are thin but still comfortable with legroom within the norm. I'm sitting in the back in 27F.
During boarding, another A320 of the airline also took off towards Marseille. It was in fact the previous day's flight, which had been cancelled due to bad weather. Thus, in the space of a few minutes, two Air Corsica flights from Ajaccio will be landing in Marseille!
As for us, the boarding is completed, and we start taxiing.
We turn around at the end of runway 20, before lining up for take-off.
The engines are running at full throttle, we take off.
We will have beautiful views over the bay of Ajaccio, before breaking through the clouds.
Some turbulences are felt while crossing the cloud layer.
Then we fly over this sea of clouds as the sun finishes rising.
The cruise continues across the Mediterranean Sea. It will only last a few minutes at only 25,000ft.
The crew has limited time to serve us, but we still get a drink and a biscuit.
After enjoying this snack, we start our descent toward Marseille.
The cloud surfing was sublime!
After breaking through the cloud layer, we were surprised to see snow-covered land, which is not usual in the south of France!
Then we were treated to a magnificent contrast between the sea and the snowy cliffs! The Calanques of Marseille are famous places for tourism, and we easily understand why!
The city of Marseille then appeared, with the mythical Velodrome stadium
We then line up with the runway, before landing.
Despite being 15 minutes late for take-off, we landed only 2 minutes behind schedule. We then taxied to the gate, before deboarding.
This was the opportunity to take some final photos of the cabin.
Welcome to Marseille Airport, where we proceed with the arrival path.
A final goodbye to our aircraft.
Then we will wait 30 minutes before collecting the luggage, which will lead to some tense scenes...
The passenger experience at Ajaccio airport was totally smooth, both at check-in and at security. It is a good thing to have a local products shop after security, allowing you to have fun while eating if necessary.
With on-time arrival, a complimentary snack, and a comfortable cabin, Air Corsica offers a good quality service. The flight went off without a hitch! Over the next few years, Air Corsica plans to continue its aircraft modernization program. This involves the recent arrival of A320neo aircraft in the fleet, as well as the renewal of the ATR fleet. This will enable the airline to offer an ever more comfortable, reliable, and punctual service.
The passenger route on arrival was quite smooth. However, the wait for luggage was endless. Some passengers were getting angry. But I couldn't tell you the purpose of this long wait. Nevertheless, it is a pity to end a pleasant journey with such an incident.
